NEUROLOGY SERVICES AVAILABLE AT CALEDON EQUINE HOSPITAL
Andrea Finnen DVM, DES, Diplomate ACVIM (Neurology)
Dr. Andrea Finnen is a Southern Ontario native, growing up and spending the majority of her time in the tri-cities of Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge. She began riding horses at a young age and found a passion for competing. Before starting university, Andrea competed in the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in 1999 riding “Turtle Express” where she was the Canadian National Large Pony Hunter Champion.
During her undergraduate program and throughout veterinary school, Andrea volunteered and later worked as a surgery technician at the University of Guelph’s Ontario Veterinary College large animal clinic. After graduation from OVC in 2006 Andrea stayed on to complete a one-year internship before following her mentor Dr. Joane Parent to the University of Montreal for a three-year medical neurology residency. Upon completing her residency in the summer of 2010 Andrea was fluently bilingual and had successfully completed the certification examination of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) to become board certified in Neurology. There are currently only 6 other individuals in Ontario with similar credentials and only 9 in total throughout Canada.
Examining, assessing and offering treatment options for equine neurological cases are what have brought Andrea to Caledon Equine. Andrea’s specialty training in conjunction with her horse background makes her especially well-suited to help Ontario’s horses and horse owners.
Never having lost her passion for riding, Andrea found the time to train under the guidance of Roger Deslauriers during her 3 year residency in Quebec. She hopes to return to competition in the near future however this time it may be in the jumper ring!
